I met Henry Kissinger when I was interning for free with the Los Angeles Affairs Council, which hosts luncheons and dinners featuring influential guest speakers.
I had an internship selling books (study guides) door-to-door in TX at 19 and I will never forget it! It was an amazing experience that taught me a lot about myself and gave me so much confidence… but I never want to do it again!
I had an internship working for a local PBS station in my hometown during school. It was a great experience working for a non-profit, gaining experience in the production realm (which I’m very interested in), and introduced me to a lot of other opportunities such as working for ESPN college football during the NCAA season! (Gained a new appreciation for that sport). I wish I would have learned about the internship world a little earlier in my school years, I would have loved to take as many as possible. If you are in school and haven’t yet jumped on board, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR! Experience is just as important as that piece of paper.
Jovie.. wow! Henry Kissinger, huh?
That man still alive?
I guess Dick Clark’s not the only that seems to live forever.
and Katie… door to door selling books,… did you ever get worried? That some folks that open the door might be questionable characters with the intent to harm?
What were some of the safety measures you took?

Hey Rama! Yea, there were definitely times when I hesitated to knock on a door, but then the words rang in the back of my mind that “this could be that big sale I’ve been waiting for” and I would usually do it anyway. I have some crazy stories from that summer and I am thankful that there were never any problems. The biggest safety measure I took was to follow my gut. If it really really seemed too shady I would skip and go to the next house.
