YSN CareerSOS: Seeking Recommendations for International Entrepreneurship Programs

by admin on 06/16/2009

life-preserverI am 25 years old and have spent four years after my undergraduate studies working my way up the corporate ladder.  I very much enjoy my career but have had a growing desire to strike out on my own.  Now in the early stages of a couple ideas that I am working on, I am just now beginning my entrepreneurial testing and am anxious to become more serious with these entrepreneurial interests.  I have my MBA but my undergraduate school, the University of Illinois, is offering several post-graduate international scholarships and I would like nothing more than to be able to spend a year overseas pursuing an entrepreneurship degree while continuing to test my ideas.  I would like to know if you have any recommendations on international (ideally European) schools to attend for entrepreneurship?

Please let me know your thoughts and if you have any other recommendations for me in regards to my entrepreneurial interests.

Thanks so much,

Hi! I just love that you’re looking to expand your entrepreneurship education oversees! There are many wonderful programs well worth the time to look into for your study abroad opportunity.

My personal favorite in Europe is INSEAD University in Fontainebleau, France. http://www.insead.edu/home/ (search “entrepreneurship”) It’s considered the “Harvard of Europe” and their entrepreneurship program is world class. I actually had a chance to speak there to the brilliant students several years ago with my good friend Steve Mariotti, who started NFTE.

Speaking of amazing organizations, you may want to also check out the Kauffman Foundation site since they fund or are involved with many of the biggest entrepreneurship programs around the world. http://www.kauffman.org/

Another thought is to start talking to any top entrepreneurship professors that you can get a hold of to see what programs they’d recommend. Many of them are connected into fabulous peer groups and research projects and often, if they’re seriously committed, they may even travel to big conferences and symposiums. So they’ll know great people or programs in Europe for sure! Plus they’re just great contacts to have anyway.

I’d also talk to some of the European members here on YSN. I know a ton of them are either aspiring or successful entrepreneurs!

Hope that helps! Be sure to let us know what you find!!!!
